.....And they have had some really messed up kits, the 79 Olds, the second gen Monte Carlo, the Pontiac GP 2+2, and others, but I must say, the Gen 6 Nascar kits and the Open Wheel Modified kits are VERY nice, Not perfect, But VERY Nice! I am quite interested in the upcoming Indy car kits regardless of the scale. The Tamiya Indycar kits from nearly 35 years ago were far superior to the 1/25th scale kits AMT and 1/24th Monogram kits from just about the same time frame. I have dozens of the Indy car kits, and while I like them, they are NOT the best kits, especially the early AMT kits like the McLaren and the Eagle.
as for the scale, well, for what ever reason 1/20th scale kits never seemed to move the needle. The Lindberg experiment produced some pretty decent 1/20th scale kits in the 80s/90s but they are a dome a dozen. to be fair, they were a bit soft on details. I doubt that will be the case with these kits. As mentioned in a previous post, 1/20 scale is the accepted scale for open wheel.
I'm thrilled to have them, but I really don't expect them to sale that well between the subject matter and the price point.
In addition to the Newgarden version, the other Penske cars are slated for release as well as Takuma Sato, Scott Dixon and Kyle Larson's Indy only effort. One can imagine there will be others or at least that Indycals will be ramping up to do after market decals for other teams.
Count me in for at least one ( I've already pre-ordered mine) probably more. I have not read if they are in oval or road/street course configuration or options for both. They do have Chevy/ Honda engine options so they are not curbside like the Tamiya kits.
I think other than local short track racing, they have as good a racing series as anyone. Just no one watches it. : )
