IMHO, the theory might have been that the axle flexed at the dip, when one wheel or the other hit an irregularity in the track surface *NM*

So Tim, I've got one of those front axles in my parts box and was always curious as to the dip in it. Do you know why it's there?? Thanks. *NM*

Hobby Heaven????? *PIC*
Does go back a ways... I wonder how Tom is doing these days? *NM*
Tom is posting car show pics and old train pics on Facebook all the time. *NM*
I did not know that. I am really glad to hear it. Thanks for the info. *NM*
Nice to see that build again Tim. Here is a link to an interview with Ohio George. The Multi Maverick gets some ink and MPC gets mentioned too. He says he drove the MM only one time! *NM* *LINK*
A good read, it must have originally been published in the long lamented Elapsed Times magazine....of course one of the 2 issues I don't have....rats!........lol........that, Elapsed Times & Hot Rod Deluxe are sorely missed. *NM*

? Can't figure that one out. *NM*
When one wheel hit a dip or bump, the axle probably flexed a bit at the center...
Would it have something to do with the chassis staying planted, esp. at launch / shifts?
Guys that build race cars are pretty "crafty". That hump probably did nothing. But it kept the competition, and possibly the sanctioning body wondering. So they are all looking at that funny front axle, but not lookng at something else that actually made the car faster.
Looking at the 1971 HOT ROD article, the 1:1 car's front axle does not have the hump. That, and a number of other differences, would point to the 1:1 car deviating from the original design *NM*
Or he may have had a few in stock and using them up... or...
From what I've read, he didn't build that car, MPC did. *NM*
That's my thinking as well. *NM*
Don't have a clue on that one. Now that you raise it, I am wondering too....TB *NM*
