- WRECKER QUESTION: Would the new Moebius wrecker be period correct for the AMT '60 F-100? What about the '50's Chevy pickups? *NM*
- Well, if a tow truck operator had a '72 rig that got totaled in a wreck, but the wrecker portion was ok, he might put it on an old Chevy farm truck his uncle never used any more. *NM*
- Light duty wrecker bodies are not that plentiful. Hard job finding good examples of 50's and 60's wreckers on line. *NM*
- There are diecast wreckers that might be good sources for parts. A 1950 lighter duty tow truck might have a Weaver hoist through. There is reference for scratchbuilting such a unit around the internet. *NM*
- You'd want the wrecker unit to be older than the truck (or equal for the first installation). The trucks wore out/rusted out faster than the wrecker, so a unit would be switched to a new truck when the first one wore out *NM*
- Thanks, Jim, Charlie, Brian, & Mark. I appreciate your help here. *NM*
- The wrecker body depicted by Moebuis is a Holmes 440 that was first released in 1966.
- We used to have a resident tow truck expert on here, Patrick Bailey maybe....
- There is a museum for tow trucks that may have some hepful info. Here the lnk to heir website. *NM* *LINK*
- I have two of the Moebius kits, working on one now, cut the bed down to a low side or west coast as some call it. I have a 60 F-100 waiting for the bed from the other kit. I’ll leave it as a high side, and period correct or not I’m doing it LOL! *NM*
