• I need your help. My wife is wanting gift ideas from me, and I'm trying to figure out some hobby tools (or supplies) I could use. What kind of stuff have you been looking for, wanting, or thought of getting?
  • One thing you might want if you do not already have one is a spring handled sprue nipper that is marketed for clipping tough or ingrown toenails - a "Toenail Nipper". *4 PICS*
    • Xuron and some other companies make those specifically for model kits. Jaws are a little thinner so you can get into tight spaces with them. *NM*
      • Also, not all have flush cutting jaws which are good for cutting off parts cleanly. *NM*
    • Tamiya sprue cutters are the best (in my opinion). *NM*
    • What Terry & Bill said X2. Also, Xuron has excellent smooth-jaw, needle-nose pliers (serrated jaws bite into plastic & PE parts--mar the surface). They "feel" very good, especially if your fingers don't work so well anymore. *NM*
      • I agree with David, also. FWIW, the straight-jaw nail clippers do work and they're cheaper if cost is an issue. That said, my Xuron stuff has worked excellently for years now. *NM*
        • I have Xuron as well. Just don’t use them to cut wire. It will dull them out. *NM*
          • Their hard wire cutters handle piano wire. *NM*
            • That wire will take out pretty much every kind of pliers - even some stout craftsman side cutters. Best to have a cutoff wheel in the dremel for those jobs *NM*

    • Thanks for the info on dedicated sprue cutters, folks. I had never done a search for that, I just noticed those while I was in CVS the other day and really liked the feature of the springed handles.and the cutting shape. The cost was a factor, too. If I should get back
  • Radio Shack (showing my age) had the "Nippy Cutter" - mine are many years old and still getting it done
