M-9 45 Ton Trailer Build #2

Work on this project has been a bit slow. Projects around the house to get ready for winter have taken priority! And now the maple and oak leaves have decided it is time to completely cover the lawn! It takes several days of raking in between rain showers to get them all raked up before Thanksgiving. Anyway, Here is some progress on what has been happening.

The front has two intricate beams that support the axles for 8 tires and wheels. I made one from plastic stock and then made a mold to cast two. Much easier than trying to duplicate the first one from scratch.

The two support beams are attached to the box frame that acts as the pivot point for turning the trailer. A tow bar will be mounted on the front of the frame.

Here's the underside. Lots more detail to put into this particular piece of the build.

The eight tires and wheels are set in pairs on each side of the axle beams. The hard part is going to be securing the inside wheels onto the axles.

This is where they sit. The brass tube that holds the pair of wheels together will have to be done in two pieces. Just exactly how that will be done has to be worked out.
That's it for now. More in a while after I rake up more leaves!!
