    • Well, maybe, just maybe one of the "youngsters" here might still be around then but a 56 year old Tesla example I would expect to be in a museum or owned by an antiques collector? Afer all, there are still driveable model A's around these days. ;^) *NM*

  • The antique fire truck club I belong to brings his 1909 Hale pumper to our annual muster, and pumps from a local river for hours.
    • This is my view as well. Today’s vehicles are awash with integrated electronics that are very specific to the vehicle and tend to have relatively short production runs. They also tend to degrade over time when exposed to heat and humidity (i.e. being outside).
  • Re: I expect there'll be lots of nostalgia for the first mass-produced and exceptionally successful fully electric cars, but will replacement drivetrains (batteries) be available /affordable? Tesla almost single handedly proved battery powered vehicles could be marketable. *NM*
    • It seems to me we're already in a similar situation with finding parts for vintage cars that aren't Ford, Chevy or muscle cars. *NM*
      • Now imagine how much worse that would be if these vintage cars wouldn’t work without specific computers and in-car networks running complex, proprietary software. This applies to all modern vehicles, but EVs software is an order of magnitude higher than ICEs.
        • One also has to think about whether there will be a business case for Tesla (since that’s the maker we are discussing) to keep all legacy software and make a mechanism available to distribute it to the public, or if royalty fees and potential litigation would make or break
      • It's not as bad as some want to believe, but getting good quality replacement parts can be an issue *NM*
  • Perhaps gas power will live on at some level. Could we see a few electrics with gasoline front drive trains like we know know, converted with great effort? Or putting bodies of electrics on various gasoline chassis. Just thinking out loud. *NM*
