The antique fire truck club I belong to brings his 1909 Hale pumper to our annual muster, and pumps from a local river for hours.

Imagine any piece of fire equipment built today, with all of their electronics controlling everything being able to do the same 30 years from now.
Now think the same about our vehicles currently being built. 10 years from now, all of those 15-40 computers in each vehicles that control everything from engines, transmissions, climate control, power steering, lighting, and little things like power windows and door locks won't be available. The chips used in those computers will be obsolete and long out of production when they fail.
