Glad you brought this up; learnin' a bunch of new stuff :) Interesting aside,

the closest I ever got to owning an honest to gosh hipo was the the engine eighteen year old me pulled out of one of my '66 mustangs for a 'refresh'. Looked for all the world like your garden variety C code two bbl 289 but when I tore it down, I discovered a funny looking extra counterweight behind the crank gear and orange painted hipo on the back of the block. Casting number fit too. Everything bolted to the block was code C though; heads,manifold, hydraulic lifters and cam and even main bearing caps and maybe the crank. Someone floated the idea of warranty block but... Traded it off and I'm sure the guy who got is still laughing at how cheap he got it for.
