Straight Line Saturday.....
Great pics. Please tell me that's a mannequin. *NM* *PIC*
That's no mannequin..... That was just one of stunts that Gary Watson was known for back in the day. *NM*
Seriously diggin' the injected Fiat!!! *NM*
X2....that's a perfect race car. *NM*
Re: Seriously diggin' the injected Fiat!!!
Hemi? BBC? *NM*
I'd bet on a Chevy...if it were a Hemi, the rocker covers would be out in the breeze instead of under the body *NM*
My guess would be BBC as the hood sides are not bubbled out for Hemi valve cover clearance....but that is just a guess. *NM*
If you Google Danny Townsend, it looks like all his other race cars had injected big-block Chevys in them. *NM* *PIC*
It was a Big block Chevy.
Image search found this. *PIC*
Some old classics. Thanks! *NM*
Neat stuff. The Buick V6 funnycar is interesting. Can't say I've ever seen it before. *NM*
Not a 'funnycar'-- it ran as an Econo Altered.. Here's a link to a Hot Rod story from '87. *LINK*
Thanks! *NM*
BTW, the website says it was originally posted in 1983? I recall at that time I thought that the V6 would be the performance engine of the future. Other than the Buick GN, it never seemed to really play out that way, though. *NM*
Re: BTW, Buddy ingersoll "built"a Pro Stock Buick Regal with a turbo V6. NHRA didn't let him run in Pro Stock, but IIRC, the IHRA let him run. *LINK* *PIC*
Is it possible there were 2 cars? I'm finding pics of the car with both Olds and Buick 1/4 window shapes. , , So it was at least an Olds at one time. *NM*
I believe Ingersoll bought an ex-Warren Johnson car, which would explain the Olds window openibgs *NM*
At the time, Buick was very active behind the scenes in several race series
The "factory backed" Econo Altered. Chevrolet did it too, with Jenkins building Chevy V6 engines for another team *NM*
What great memories!! *NM*
Rare pic of a T Bolt with the cloverleaf hood! Would love to see more of those! *NM*
I totally missed that detail..
He needs to make two and send one here! LOL! *NM*
Where is Frank? Is he OK? *NM*
He is fine..Just extremely busy with life things, but still getting much more model building done than most of the rest of us.... As a matter of fact he just sent pics of his latest build, which I will be posting shortly. *NM*
That Garlits Dart--never seen such a rig. Love all the pick ups, CD. *NM*
There were actually two of those Darts. Garlits still has the second one in his museum. Another team built a similar Barracuda bodied car (but left the roof on that one) *NM*
When Garlits used to write a guest column for Hemmings Muscle Machines magazine years ago, he explained how he got involved in the "Dart deal", and how one of the cars was destroyed after a race. *NM*
