Spotlight Hobbies

I thought that way for a long time,

after studying the pros and cons I finally took the leap and shot Splash 2K clear on a couple of cars.

Long story short - I really don't know why I held off for so long. Yes, you need to have a good quality respirator (dust masks/Covid masks won't cut it). Yes, you need a properly vented spray booth that vents to the outside. If you spray indoors and just use an open window for ventilation you're not going to be happy. No, it's not harder to handle/mix than lacquer paints. Four parts clear to one part activator, I usually add one part self leveling thinner to make it flow out just a little smoother on the car (but that's optional).

I once was told that if you spray in your house to evacuate everyone (including pets) for at least an hour after spraying. I have my booth in the basement and vent it outside, no smells in the basement or the rest of the house, no headaches from odors. I kept my mask on for about ten minutes after I finished (I was cleaning my equipment during that time) and had no odors too contend with.

Bottom line - like anything else in this hobby read about it, watch the videos on YouTube (dozens of them out there) and draw your conclusions yourself. Don't rely on the old "a friend of a neighbor's uncle next door to my second cousin told me" scenario. Yes it requires a little more caution when spraying but so did spraying with lacquer after using hobby spray paints.
