• I've tried emailing Scalefinishes with a question, but I'm not getting a response. I'm gong to spray his 500 clear. After wet sanding, my question is: what brand of polish should I use to polish out the clear? Which is product is the best one? *NM*
  • The Treatment Model Wax / The Final Detail ...is still available by mail order in larger 5oz. containers. It is a very mild compound and wax combined .Works wonders on clear parts too, *NM*
    • I stand corrected. I was looking at an old web page . They may still produce packets but the 5 oz. tubs may be questionable . Last time I purchased was under the Pocher brand. *NM*
  • I've had excellent results with Tamiya polishing compound for decades. *NM*
    • Thanks Steve. I've used Tamiya polishes for a long time too, but on a Tamiya paint finish which is lacquer. The 500 clear is enamel. Is tamiya polish the best one for an enamel paint surface? *NM*
      • I don't know if it's the best or not but it's good enough for me. This hod was painted with good old Testors gloss black , wet sanded with a kit and final polish with the Tamiya compound. *NM* *PIC*

  • I don't get it: If I've polished out a finish, why do I need to wax it? This is a model--it's not going to sit out in the elements like a real vehicle. *NM*
    • I used to think the exact same thing. I thought waxing a model was ridiculous. Then I tried it and it makes it significantly more glossy than just polishing. *NM*
      • Wax fills in and levels microscopic scratches. Got a lot to do with optics. *NM*
