• Morning all. Question for anyone who has added a vinyl top to a 1/24 or 1/25 scale model. What size plastic did you use for the chrome edge trim? Also what technique did you use to create the vinyl? Just an FYI, I am doing a couple of 69 Camaros. TIA. *NM*
  • I currently don't have access to my Evergreen supply so I can only give a partial answer. For the vinyl top on this T Bird, I used MCW textured paint. PIC

  • Did the AMT 65 Galaxie (didn't need to add edge), used old school method (satin black, can held 18-20" away to attain vinyl texture) *NM*
  • I use the same--or very close to--that found on the windshield/back glass so it looks OK. Testors fabric spray works very well (if you can find some). Don't need primer under it and can spray other colors over it. *NM*
  • don't forget 1969 only has a halo vinyl top *NM*
    • That's what I was thinking, 69 Camaro would be hardest one ever to do because of paint and double trim around the halo! *NM*

  • When i built my 69'camaro i used Evergreen .015 X.020 strips and the texture i used Tamiya Matt White sprayed from 8-10 inches away.

  • I know the seams were there - I had a vinyl roof on my '66 442 - but many models I have seen overemphasize them. They were just a bit over 1/2" wide and just the thickness of the overlapping vinyl. Those vinyl sheets had a texture but most were very subtle. The vinyl was
    • Note: for "various tape material" read "various seam material" as the material could be tape, styrene strips, or even paint if the roof paint is first applied between tape strips to build up a "seam" and then the final cover coat is applied with some texturing technique. *NM*
      • I think I'd just mask off the "seams" first and apply a couple coats of paint. That ought to be enogh thickness to be visible, but not be too out-of-scale. *NM*
