OT: Of course that was back when they were truly "Service Stations", not "convenience stores" with some self-serve gas pumps. ;^) You remember: uniformed guys, clean windshield, vaccumed floorboards, checked tire pressure, oil and filter changes, lubed suspension joints,

mechanic for tune ups - plugs, points and timing, anti-freeze, batteries, fixed flats, new tires, balanced wheels, alignments, mufflers and exhaust pipes, towing, car washed, even wiper blades and pine tree smell'ums to hang on your rear view mirror, lol..

In fairness, the irony is that a lot of that became and is still located at separate locations for specific functions and products but now that all-in-one concept is coming back except for driveway attendants pumping the gas (except in one of the eastern states?). The multi-function service and products in one location idea is spreading into the big box stores like Wal-Mart and has remained somewhat in the car dealerships with mechanics and body shops for serious repairs and some basic services but not gas.

I guess the next step is electric charging facilities at ALL the "convenience stores", but gasoline and diesel will probably be with us longer than forecast these days, with fuel stations becoming relatively rare requiring careful planning for long distance trips like the electrics do now.

Sigh...
