That was a small, straight strip of road in E.Dearborn / West side Detroit

Stecker St. ran between Michigan Avenue and John Kronk ( can. easily be seen by looking it up in Google earth...)

Today, it is lined on both sides of the street with industrial buildings, back then it was still largely undeveloped. At the time, much easier than heading downriver to Detroit Dragway, or way out to Mt. Clemens for Motor City.

The story in one of the local history FB groups: Fairly popular place for Sunday drags, or it was until there was a serious accident and then got closed down. Kept popping up until the seismic shift of the Detroit riots in '67, which began a few miles from there... and the area built. up enough it really couldn't be closed off.

Stecker St. was slap in the midst of dozens of auto plants, allied divisions and big suppliers to the Big 3, which would account for the relative prosperity required to race big flashy new hot cars.
