The new tool nose, hood and cowl shape (gray) is a hot mess.

The best thing about the new tool (2002) Ala Kart kit is it drove the prices of the originals down to an affordable level. And that's where I'd start if I were sitting down to build one today. Modelhaus tires makes a nice set of front runners (with whitewall inserts) that are similar to the old AMT 1965 era "implement tires" that will get the nose down closer to where it belongs. Harold Perry built a beautiful replica using that can be seen in issue 216 of Model Cars magazine using the original tool kit.
