Spotlight Hobbies

So - so, better to seek an original builder vs throwing money at the tired version available now

The '67 available now is the 80's restoration of the annual, that got detoured to Funny Car land to make the "Mr. Unswitchable" GTO. However, the hobby was a different place back then, and the crispness / accuracy we would expect was in short supply.

The GTO was a popular kit straight from the post, and the subject is evergreen. However, it's been in production more or less constantly for the last 40 years and the tool has really just had it. Lots of flashing, poor part definition and fit...a challenge for all the wrong reasons.

Net: If you are building something approximate for the shelf, the current '67 would suffice, with a lot of work. If you want a more accurate body to start with, you could chase a built-up... or hold your breath and squeeze for a builder kit ($$$) Don't overlook the JL/PL/R2 '64 new tool GTO. They got the body wrong (long story) but the rest of the bits are quite good, especially the engine. They are common as kleenex and not expensive, great for parts - plus you can use the body for a slot car.

We will see how well the R2 '65 and '68 GTOs land in the market. There is built-in appeal in the subject, the box art looks like a winner, they are made to be kitbashed with open hoods, etc.
