• Petty 71-72 roadrunner again. I was very surprised (and disappointed) to see that the parts are molded in different colors. I want to make a Pete Hamilton #9 from the kit and Pete's car was white. Are all of the Salvinos Jr kits molded in differnt colors? ..... *PIC* .....
  • Next Gen kits are molded in colors.......MOST of the 70's kits are white. But this first issue of the RR are blue and silver. A coat of silver spray cures the blue body. *NM*
    • It may not be a problem anyway. I've never had blue and green plastic bleed, just hot colors like red, yellow and orange. BUT, I would test on the inside of the body or hood first. *NM*
  • A bigger issue for me is that the Petty kit doesn't have chrome bumpers, so you will have to use some kind of chrome spray or BMF to build other cars. Doable, but a bit of a pain vs just having chrome parts in the kit.
    • In 1971 Petty ENT ran painted bumpers on the #43 RR and the #11 Baker Charger.......but yes others ran chrome at times. *NM*
      • Yes, that's what I'm saying. The kit is fine and correct for the Petty version that it's meant for, but the Pete Hamilton car that Scott wants to build has chrome bumpers. *NM*

  • Use flat black primer. Works every time. *NM*

      • Yes, white normally covers black very well! I'd normally use regular Tamiya flat black if I needed a black "primer". Just tried some actual black primer, MR Hobby 1500 Black (B526:700). It's the best spray bomb primer I've ever used. *NM*

        • Glad to see you're impressed. FWIW, their 1500 Gray, Red Oxide, White, and Mahogany are just as impressive. FWIW, the Red Oxide 1500 under Tamiya reds & pink are superb and don't hide detail if you don't go nuts on color coats. *NM*
