Doc Craft published an internal Ford memo detailing a test at Daytona in late '65

Comparing the SOHC Galaxie at the desired race weight (not the later 10.36lb) versus a Fairlane prepared for NASCAR racing that was not a half chassis car, at least not at the time of the testing.

Ford A-B tested their best wedge and race prep SOHC (no indication of the driver, guessing Lorenzen?) in the Galaxie, and brought the Fairlane as a control.

Fairlane was 3-4 MPH off the Galaxie, but this was attributed to a combination of HP and aero.(assumption is that it was still a shock tower car.)

Recommended in the report was lowering the nose and finding ground clearance for headers along with more HP for the 427 wedge was implied as the preferred course of action.

Ford was still trying to lobby the Cammer at a competitive race weight, so the engineer supervising the test had to choose his words carefully, but even then, they knew Fairlane/Comet was the right call.

I will look it up and post here later this week...
