The Revell kit actually isn't bad, in fact it is quite good considering it was first issued around 1958. The multiple piece body is okay (Revell at least put the seams in the "right" places) but the stock windshield kills that kit. Revell expected builders to cut the "glass" from a flat sheet of thin clear styrene and fit it into a thin, chrome plated frame. That's probably why so few built Revell stock Speedsters are seen to this day.
They should have molded the glass in clear styrene, even if they had molded the glass and frame as a unit that would have been better. The oft-reissued racing version eliminates that.
The headlamps on the built coupe appear to have been altered also. The kit pieces incorporate the bezel and sparsely detailed "lens" into one plated part.
The coupe conversion looks great. I never would have thought to use a 300SL roof.
