I believe they kept the same platform, although I read the "SUV" platform was considered, along with a hybrid version, but they didn't do it.

I remember reading a while back that the SUV platform was considered. I wondered at the time if that meant lots of extra weight?

Supposedly, cost entered into the decisions also.
