O/T: My son said he and his crew built the LAST Toyota Avalon this week.
Was the last one gas or hybrid? Did they build both or just one type there? *NM*
They built both types there.......
Yeah but there is no distribution system for hydrogen. Plus it takes electricity to make hydrogen, so for the most part it's still produced by burning hydrocarbons. It might be sensible if it could be made with solar, wind, hydro, or nuclear-power
Right........
To be fair, the production and distrobution of gasoline isn't "free" either.
The Avalon will be replaced by the Toyota Crown next year. Already announced. *NM*
That's an old model name being brought back, isn't it?? *NM*
Yes it is. *NM* *LINK*
What has been the Toyota Crown in Japan is the Lexus here. *PIC*
Is that a lotus blossom in the middle of the grill? *NM*
Chrysamthemum--it's the symbol of the Emperor. *NM*
It was on all the Imperial Japanese uniforms(hats) , during WWII!! *NM*
Each manufacturer plans to sell X-thousands of pure electrics per year. Add them all up and I don't think the public will buy that many.. Somebody is going to get hurt financially! *NM*
Well if every one of them do there's gonna be a material shortage för both batteries and electric motors as there are not enough in the World. *NM*
Yes, that's another issue. *NM*
Where are all the electric cars GM and others made since 1893 ? Gone. None on the used car lots. *NM*
Well if you're talking about the 1800's-early 1900's they're all in collections and museums. Moving up the EV-1, they were on lease and all went back to Chevrolet. Most crushed, a few to museums. *NM*
I've been watching the used-car market for the 2012 Mitsubishi I bought. They're not on lots mostly because they sell fast. I could sell it today for what I bought it for 5 years ago, which is astounding for a 10-year-old economy car that's been a daily driver. *NM*
Are you referring to the i-miEV (electric) ? *NM*
Yup. *NM*
I mean - none of them have been successful in over 100 years. *NM*
Well Bruce, that was then and this is now. TImes and technology have both changed. *NM*
Because little effort has been put into them much of the time. The same can be said about steam cars and locomotives, no development *NM*
Early EVs have their devotees, and they trade within groups
Autotrader.com shows 48 Chevy Volt used cars within 25 miles of me.
I stand corrected :-) Interesting. *NM*
I wonder how much a new battery is for those cars? *NM*
Here's one example... (Maybe a little extreme). *NM* *LINK*
Literally 8-year old technology...From Ford, who is notorious for low cost solutions and components
