  • Scott, International Plastic Modellers Society..predominately military & aircraft modellers..car classes tend to be called "civilian vehicles", car modellers tend to be more open to creative freedoms, ie, we build how WE like not how a specific time & place dictates..lol.. *NM*
  • Generally they want instructions, reference pics, list of products used, sometimes limits on number of models in a single diorama or vignet, auto judges in a lot of cases have NO idea what they are looking at....it will all depend on the show, which is why NNLs started,lol. *NM*

    • It's a regular '71 Demon with Rallye wheels, sport mirrors, side stripes similar to (but wider than) the '70 Duster 340, a unique blackout treatment for the hood, and color-keyed grille accent paint. *NM*
      • The performance add-ons without the performance (so it could be insured!). The Duster Twister was the Plymouth counterpart *NM*
        • The only things really worthwhile are the mirrors and the wheels. You could add both to any Demon as stand-alone options. I do like the color in the grille though. Of course "Sizzlers" are uber-rare cars today. *NM*

• Finally placed my order for one of the SSlasher kits. I'm wondering if the AMT '70 Chevelle chassis would be any better. Or would you rate them pretty much the same? *NM*
  • Same. MPC chassis has two short pieces of the exhaust system molded in, other than that they are similar *NM*
    • If you are going to purchase a kit as a chassis donor, may as well get an AMT '69 4-4-2...much better detail, steerable front end. Should drop right in, or close to it *NM*
      • Also applies to the R2 / MPC '68-72 GTO, JoHan 442s. A great "dog food" kit for bashing GM A-Bodies *NM*
      • Just tried the '69 Olds chassis on the SSlasher, and it does drop in, but you might have to grind away a little on the area behind the front bumper. *NM*
      • I believe a Revell ‘68 or ‘69 Chevelle chassis would be better for the Chevy engine included. *NM*
        • Probably a ton more work to make it fit. The MPC Chevelle engine is actually pretty good, especially by 1971-72 kit standards *NM*

• I’m grateful we have a new sporty car (non Corvette) from any model company. Due to no promo contract after ‘16, the Camaro died without an update for ‘19+ or even a ZL1 model in 1/25 scale. May not be a full glue, but having a new Mustang in 1/25 is a good thing. *NM*

• What Mark said is right about the body. I think the interior DID end up in the Pro Street ‘74 Barracuda. That one has Challenger door panels. *NM*
  • The gutted interior was used in the Landy Challenger and Motown Missile Barracuda. It's way too narrow for the Challenger *NM*

• Some questions about GM 4 cyl engines
  • The GM 153 - that IS the Nova 4-cylinder. The "Dookie" is in the first issue of the MPC Fiero kit *NM*
    • Edit: The 3D GM 4-Cylinder is the 153 Nova engine - forgot who the vendor is but it looked excellent *NM*
      • Texas 3D Customs. And they sell 2 versions: stock, and with a header and Weber carbs. *NM*
  • I've got the Texas3D 4 popper to put in the AMT 63 wagon, with the "slip and slide with a powerglide" don't ya know :-) *NM*
• Ummmm.... it was 24 hours, not 168 hours! Just kidding, looks really good and I know have a 24 hr build can spiral out of control and end up taking longer. Neat weathering. *NM*
• It occurred to me that the cost of model kits is nothing to complain about. The hidden cost in our hobby is paint, display cases, moto tools, glue, cutting tools, air brushes, spay booths, and paint remover solutions! Since I got tired of all the debris getting in my paint

  • That’s why I like molded in color plastic that can be polished out and pre-painted kits. I’m not saying everything has to be this way, but they could offer a special limited run of select kits that are done this way like in the past. *NM*

  • I am looking forward to that 60 Nomad. I like the two types of hubcaps as well. If they are separate from the wheels (please) then we can put thm on the 59 El Camino and make a period correct factory version. I can't wait to pop a twing four barrel 409 into that engine

      • The CAD program to do the Demon probably included a Duster in the brief, and they got it all in one kick...
        • Exactly. I remember Steve mentioning that too, Bob. IIRC it was a bear to just convert the newer tool '70 Camaro from split to solid front bumper and that's why it took so long. I doubt you'll see any mods of any of the '90s/'00s tooling after that. *NM*
