• Seems like I recall a recent post where someone was trying to strip paint with 98% alchol. Was I seeing things? Is this possible, does alcohol not ruin styrene? And where do you find 98% alcohol? Thanks. *NM*
  • I've been using 91% (or 99% if I can find it) without any problems for the last decade to strip lacquers. *NM*
  • BTW.... The alcohol can be found at most pharmacies.... Just remember, you want 91% or higher. The 75% won't work at all. *NM*
  • With old or stubborn finishes, it helps to loosen the surface with Easy Lift Off - ELO, still sold by Testor's
    • ELO (Easy Lift Off) has gotten hard to find. But is by far the best stuff, and seems to work on all types of paint. Even enamel that has cured for 40 years! *NM*
      • I've seen it at most LHS' Testor's racks. Once it knocks the surface loose, the rest will yield to the 91/99%
  • Isopropyl alcohol. Don't use any other kind. You can usually find 91% in pharmacies or grocery stores. You really don't need anything stronger, but I've seen 100% in the paint dept. at either Lowes or Home Depot. *NM*
• I'm looking over the new Blazer kit and I see that the door lines are lightly engraved. A pet peeve of mine. *NM*
  • That was pointed out on the Online review of the kit I saw as well. It seems I almost always end up with "extra" Door Panel lines when I go to rescribe them regardless of how careful I am! : ) *NM*

  • Most if not all makes had the M/c mounted beside or attached to the bellhousing or bracketry between it & the frame, in scale most of that wouldn't be molded..... pedant pedals/firewall M/c didn't happen till the 1950's. *NM*
  • In full scale it's mounted on bracket attached to bell housing on these Chevy and GMC trucks. My Dad's 37 Chevy is the same way. *NM*

    • Wide 5s are early AMT '36 Ford from a friend's parts box, and the tires are Goodyear Wranglers with the "Wrangler" sliced and sanded off. *NM*
      • Cool, those Wranglers have a great profile and can work on lots of Hot Rods. The profile and the tread pattern are perfect! *NM*
      • Norm at Replicas and Miniatures now has '36 Ford wide fives with full hub detail cast from a perfectly molded (hard to find) original AMT kit circa 1961. Highly recommended....TB *NM*

  • I bought the '60 to make a short bed 4X4 (black) with the bed from the recent release of the '53'.Someone on this board built this described truck many years ago, and I want one of my own.I started the build, and ran into issues with the 4X4 suspension, so it is waiting. *NM*

  • Shapeways recently annouced that they are back in business. I used them many times before they shut down, and had about a 95% success rate. There's also Xometry, but I have no experience with them. *NM* *LINK*

    • barnes & Noble, and Books-a-Million seem to be it. Some supermarkets have either dropped most magazines or stopped altogether. Many independent bookstores don't carry mags anymore. Some "mom & pop" convenience stores might still carry them.

  • Most likely heavier suspension and larger fenders for upper F series. *NM*
    • Probably a taller channel section for the frame rails too. The Monogram 1/24 scale '55 front fenders could probably be used as a basis for the bigger fenders in 1/25. Tires and wheels might be a sticking point though *NM*
      • Thinking maybe a Moby or some aftermarket for the wheels, etc... But primarily, just musing out loud

  • Scott, can't help re the part but couldn't you drill the end of the shock & use a piece of stretched orange kit sprue to subsitute the missing piece. *NM*
  • That should be an easy fix. *NM*
    • Well, what is easy for some people may not be easy for other people. I have never be able to drill and pin like other people here can sometimes. The shock absorber body is very thin, too thin for me to handle it. *NM*
      • One way to drill is put a tube over shock to guide drill. Make an indent with a point for further guidance. *NM*
  • Drill it and pin it. Won't see it when painted. *NM*
    • Another option is just use 4 shocks instead of 8. Big ask of someone to trash a kit for one shock absorber. You have skills, we've seen your work, you can handle that. *NM*
      • I wouldn't expect someone to trash a good kit. I was hoping that someone might have a parts kit. I had to buy 3 of these GMC High Roller parts kits to get enough to make one nice one. *NM*
        • It's the same kit as the 78 GMC High County kit right down to the wrong direction Ground Hawg tires, Sans the decals (not sure but I think the Ground Hawg lettering has been removed). Can't imagine why you bought 3 of those to make one. *NM*
          • all 3 kits were partially assembled and also had broken parts as well as missing parts. A good unbuilt kit costs alot. I found a guy selling all 3 junk kits for $25.00 *NM*
