• OK, so I've settled on my next project , , , [PICS]

• Looking to get a 3D printer........need advise....

  • One more question. The box bottom shows the parts layout. The kit comes with 10 tires, are the bigger set drag slicks? *PIC*
    • Mike it says 3-1 kit ...stock, street or drag so I would think there drag slicks then *NM*
  • The Camaro did not, but the 57 had a tunnel ram and a beautiful set of Cragar 5 spokes and a set of drag slicks.
    • Just looked at the Vette instructions on line, appears memory failed me, it has the small block , but it does have the 6-71 blower. *NM* *LINK*
      • Looking closer at the instructions, it appears maybe the blower was an aftermarket piece......I'm just gonna shut up and pretend I didn't see any of these post....Jeez! *NM*

  • The Last one I remember was the Coke version of the USA 1 , Lindberg did the Ramunator or something like that, which I think was the last new tool. There were some snap kits too, like the Gravedigger and some 1/32nd scale as well.

  • Humbrol left the Canadian market years ago. They couldn’t get all the regulatory wording to fit on their tins so they said See ya. *NM*

  • Mine are grouped loosely by make and year and stacked on shelfs in my shop, and hobby room. They're everywhere. I like them on shelfs so I can see and remember where each is.

          • Corporate shortsightedness strikes, yet again..... The decision was probably based on sales of that old tool multi-piece mess of a Ranchero.... Meanwhile, I'd put big money on a Ranchero, based on the new wagon, being money in the bank. *NM*
            • I wouldn't say shortsighted, but rather they know how many versions of a particular tool they can sell before getting into diminishing returns. I'd guess they would have done either the Ranchero or wagon, but never both unless they hadn't done the sedan *NM*

• Anyone still using Humbrol enamel? What's the best thinner for airbrushing? They recommend "white spirits", or their own thinner. *NM*
  • I don't airbrush the stuff (tried once, didn’t care for it) but do like it for brush painting engines and chassis parts. It's good old enamel (like old Testors or Pactra), any good enamel thinner will do *NM*
    • Mark, does it dry fast? Show brush strokes? Need to thin it? *NM*
      • I seldom thin it...when I do, not much. Use a good brush, don't keep dragging it back over already applied paint...
  • Yep, me, have used it for 50yrs, I haven't airbrushed it for a few yrs, got lazy & now use tamiya rattle cans for bodies but Humbrol brushed for all detail work, wash brushes & thin with mineral turps but use enamel thinner when airbrushing, I've also got tamiya enamels &

  • One thing worth knowing is that Humbrol Paint Charts are good to have as they have cross reference lists to other paint brands incl the US Military FS numbers,Testors,Tamiya,Revell,Gunze,Life Color, Games Workshop, etc....AFAIK the charts are still available. *NM*
    • I'm just happy someone still makes real enamels, although not specifically automotive-related. . And hundreds of colors, including military, since Testors basically abandoned us. *NM*

  • Keep an eye on the Atlantis website.... A short while back they offered a limited number deal that bundled the T roadster chassis/283 Chevy/Dragster wheel and tire trees from the Mooneyes kit for 10 bucks.... I ordered two of them. *NM*

  • The skinny tires, dog dish hubcas, license plate and lack of any roll bar would indicate a street car rather than a dedicaed race car, but I am by no means an expert. Wasn't the late '40s-early '50s when races began to require roll bars? Just my guesses. *NM*

  • Go to autocolorlibrary.com, and narrow it down...
    • And maybe compare to other B&W photos from that era, where the car color is known. Dark blue and dark green often look "more black" than black in photos *NM*
      • You could see if Tom Mooty knows, and if he doesn't, I don't know who would...
        • There's also a "blue black" but with no color chip, as well as a dark green. No black, not even as a two-tone *NM*

      • Might depend on the type of film used. Some film types were more sensitive to certain color wavelengths than others. Colored filters mounted in front of the lens also can effect tone. *NM*
